There is a Department of Natural Resources phone number (414) 382-7920 that records on Thursday afternoons regarding the fishing results of the previous days. In addition there are a number of Web sites with helpful information on weather and lake conditions.

The near shore marine forecast will help determine whether or not a particular day is good to go to Lake Michigan. If there is a N, NE, or E wind, the waves will be very difficult for the average size fishing boat. Experience will help you determine what is a "fishable" wind direction, speed and wave height.  The Other Great Lakes information has a variety of information when everything is working, such as surface water temperatures, weather, fishing reports and a chat line.
